What is gambling? According to Webster’s dictionary, gambling is the practice or activity of betting. It’s the practice of risking money or other stakes in a game or bet with an uncertain outcome. It means to stake something on a contingency or to take a chance by playing a game for money or property. Gambling is based on luck and uncertainty, but what does the Word have to say about gambling? Today we are going to talk about what the Bible says about gambling and uncertain riches.

God has a better and more secure plan for our finances. As believers, God has a plan for our finances that does not involve luck, but rather blessings. God’s plan for our lives and finances do not involve an uncertain outcome, but rather a planned and expected end. In everything we do, God has a good plan for our lives and that also includes our finances.

In the book of Genesis, God promised Abraham  that He will bless those that blessed him and curse those that cursed him. As children of Abraham we inherit those same promises of God. We are part of a great nation, we are blessed and we are a blessing to others. How great is our God!

Reference Scriptures:

Genesis 12:2-3
I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. And I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

What The Bible Says About Gambling and The Traps Of Gambling

The thought of having hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars right now in our hands, I’m sure sounds good to all of us. The enticement to play the lottery is strong when you see millions of dollars being given away and you only have $1.23 in your bank account. Any form of gambling at the casinos, playing the lottery and even investing your money in the worlds stock market system are all risk. When a person gambles they put their money into the world’s system in hopes of getting a greater return back.

Ecclesiastes 10:19
Food is made ready to be enjoyed, wine makes life happy, but money is the answer to everything.

A person playing the slot machines puts coins in looking for dollars back. A person who plays the lottery buys a ticket everyday for dollars hoping to hear their “lucky” number called on television that night. People invest hundreds and thousands of dollars in the world’s stock exchange everyday looking to make a greater return on their investments. This is more of the rich man’s game of gambling. With stocks, the stakes are higher and the thrill of selling and buying is a real exciting high to most who are invest in the market.

Proverbs 13:11
Wealth from gambling quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows.

Spirits Attached To Gambling

We know that everything God has for us, Satan has a counterfeit for it.  So we know if God has a plan for our finances, so does Satan. Satan’s plan usually involves instant gratification, get rich quick schemes and false hopes that are eventually shattered.  All Satan can offer us is the world, things that will perish and fade away. He even offered the world to Jesus if He would just bow down and worship him.

Matthew 4:8-9
Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

Trusting God With Your Finances

What The Bible Says About Gambling - Sow Seed In Good Ground

Satan’s plan for our finances is to steal them, kill any future we may have and destroy our lives in the process. Jesus came to give us a  life full of riches, wealth and abundance. As people of God, we are instructed to trust God with our finances not by taking it to the casino, or the corner store to play the lotto, but instead we are to invest our money in the Kingdom of God.
Please understand that I am not saying that you should sow your seed  into any and every ministry that says it’s of God. Pray about where you sow your seed and inquire of the Lord where He has you to sow. Our seed must always be sown in good ground in order for us to receive a good harvest and unfortunately,  every church/ministry does not meet that criteria.

John 10:10
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

The Lord All-Powerful says, “Try this test. Bring one-tenth of your things to me.Put them in the treasury. Bring food to my house. Test me! If you do these things, I will surely bless you. Good things will come to you like rain falling from the sky. You will have more than enough of everything.

Reference Scriptures:

Genesis14:18-20

Abram and Melchizedek

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:

“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

And he gave him a tithe of all

God says to bring all our tithe which is 10% of our increase or earnings to him, into the house of God. It is through the tithe of our increase that God will continue to bless and multiply our increase. Tithing is a principal that works regardless of who you are. In the world, those who are not in the Kingdom tithe as well, but they call it charity. You will see many companies in the world give back 10% of their profits by donating to causes and organizations that they support.

Keep Alert and Pray Against Temptation

When you give, it will always be given back to you. It is a principal that just works. That is not luck… that is a blessing and a promise from God. We don’t have to ever worry about if the seed we plant will grow. When we sow it into the Kingdom of God, we are sure to get increase every time.  Do not be discouraged because you planted a seed yesterday and you haven’t seen any increase yet. It takes time for your harvest to come up. God’s Kingdom is not a get rich quick scheme. Seed time and harvest will always remain.

Mark 4:26-29

Parable of the Growing Seed

Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.”

Our offering is part of our worship to God. When we begin to trust God with our finances we will trust God with everything in our lives. It seems that money is the hardest thing for most people to trust God with. The Word of God tells us that we will either love money or God, but we can’t love them both. Where our heart is where our treasure is.  If our hearts belong to money, we will serve money.  If our hearts belong to God we will serve God.

Matthew 6:24
You cannot serve two masters: God and money. For you will hate one and love the other, or else the other way around.

Who Is Your God

Let’s face it, while we living here in this world, we need money.  It takes money to eat, to buy houses, put gas in our cars, raise our families, and even do ministry for the Kingdom. It takes money to accomplish everything that we need to do here on earth. The questions comes in…which system will you choose the worlds system of luck and chances or God’s plan for promises and blessings.
