What is Evil?
Evil is defined as being sinful and wicked. It means the same as to be dangerous, mischievous, bad and to have wrong motives. Evil comes from Satan, but good comes from God. We have a choice of whether we will partake in evil or if we will partake in good. The choice was given to us back in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 2:9
The LORD God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:16-17
But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
God gave the warning to Adam of what would happen if He ate from the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil. Before Adam ate from this tree, all He knew was good…All He knew was God. It wasn’t until after He ate from the tree that His eyes were opened to evil and He his spirit was then introduced to evil…then He knew and was aware of both God and Satan, good and evil. He did not die naturally at that moment, but his divine connection to God and spirit man died.
Beware of Evil People
When Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil it was then that evil would begin to take root in the hearts of man. God created man in the image of himself. He was created in goodness. Everything that God made, when He finished He said It is good.
Genesis 1:31
Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!
The Bible warns us about evil people and the hearts of wicked and evil man. It warns us to be careful not to follow after these individuals and the works that they do. A person with an evil heart can always be known by their fruit or by their actions. It’s important that we not only listen to what a person says, but we are to also watch what they do as well.
Matthew 7:15-20
Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
God Helps Us To Recognize And Avoid Evil
In these last days, it is extremely important that we begin to learn how to recognize evil and avoid it. As Christians it is important for us to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God. It is the Holy Spirit that will give us the gift of discernment to know whether a spirit is good or evil.
The discerning of spirits is a “revelation gift” which means you receive supernatural revelation from the mind of God. This gift is for born again spirit filled believers who ask for it. With the spirit of antichrist being so strong now in these last days, it can be very easy to be deceived by people.
The scripture warns us that they will come as sheep, but inwardly they are vicious wolves. This spirit is not only in the world, but it has crept into our churches. There are many people now who are claiming to be Christians, but their primary assignment is to get into the churches and into the lives of God’s people with only one intention and that is to kill, steal and destroy.
Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
