What Is The Shofar?

What is the ministry of the shofar? The shofar is a Jewish instrument of praise and worship used in Jewish synagogues during holiday services such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

The shofar is an instrument made from the horn of a animal that’s crafted and prepared to be used as an instrument. The horns come from the ram, wild goats gazelle antelopes or a kudu.

The shofar is mentioned several times in the Bible and was used for many different reasons. Every time the trumpet is sounded under the anointing of God, it sends the enemy and his camp into confusion. The rams horn is such a powerful and even mysterious instrument when used in battle.  It also brings forth the fire of healing, delivers people from bondage and oppression and sends the enemy running.

The Ministry of The Shofar Is Many Things:

  • It’s a sound that we listen for in the spirit. We may hear it with our natural ears but we have to tune our spiritual ears to the frequency of God to really hear what He is saying to our spiritman.
  • It’s the voice of the Lord speaking
  • When we sound the shofar It’s a proclaiming and declaring of God’s word into the atmosphere
  • It is an instrument of worship

2 Chronicles 29:27-29
Then Hezekiah ordered the burnt offering to be placed upon the altar, and as the sacrifice began, the instruments of music began to play the songs of the Lord, accompanied by the trumpets. Throughout the entire ceremony everyone worshiped the Lord as the singers sang and the trumpets blew. Afterwards the king and his aides bowed low before the Lord in worship.

Blowing The Shofar

Who Ministers The Shofar

The Voice of God Is Like The Sound of the Trumpet

The sound of the shofar is like the wind and breath of Holy Spirit that covers the people like a blanket. When this happens healing takes place and the wondrous miracles of God have an atmosphere to work in. We learn about the shofar in the Book of Exodus when God tells Moses to gather the Israelites together at the foot of Mount Sinai to meet with Him. These were His instructions to Moses to warn the people.

Mount Sinai Exodus 19

The Lord Trumpets In The Old Testament

Exodus 19:13-19
You must tell the people to stay away from the mountain. Make a line and don’t let them cross it. Any person or animal that touches the mountain must be killed with stones or shot with arrows. But don’t let anyone touch them. The people must wait until the trumpet blows. Only then can they go up the mountain.”

So Moses climbed down the mountain and went to the people. He got them ready for the special meeting and they washed their clothes.

Then Moses said to the people, “Be ready for the meeting with God in three days. Until that time do not have sexual relations.”

On the morning of the third day, a thick cloud came down onto the mountain. There was thunder and lightning and a very loud sound from a trumpet. All the people in the camp were frightened. Then Moses led the people out of the camp to a place near the mountain to meet God. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke.

Smoke rose off the mountain like smoke from a furnace. This happened because the Lord came down to the mountain in fire. Also the whole mountain began to shake. The noise from the trumpet became louder and louder. Every time Moses spoke to God, God answered him with a voice like thunder.

The sound of God's voice is like a trumpet that ushers us into His presence. Share on X

Open Door In Heaven

The Lord Trumpets In The New Testament

Revelation 4:1
Then I looked, and there before me was an open door in heaven. And I heard the same voice that spoke to me before. It was the voice that sounded like a trumpet. It said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” Immediately the Spirit took control of me, and there in heaven was a throne with someone sitting on it.

These are some of the purposes that the rams horn trumpet/shofar was used for in the Bible and is still for today.

Dangers of The Ministry of The Shofar:

  • When ministering the shofar your spirit must be right! Just like any other instrument that’s used to worship God, the vessel through which it comes through MUST BE CLEAN! Whatever is in  your spirit, you blow out over the people and into the atmosphere. Whether we sing, play drums, the keys, the strings or minister by preaching God’s Word, we MUST have clean hands and a pure heart.
  • Another danger is that the shofar is not to be worshiped or turned into an idol. Just like us, the shofar is an instrument that God uses to worship Him and speak through. In the same manner that we DON’T worship one another, we don’t ever try to replace the CREATOR with the created.

God Responds To The Shofar Call

The shofar is a rather mysterious type instrument in that when it is blown it penetrates the atmosphere, sends a signal to God and causes the enemy to flee. You can blow the shofar in your city and send the enemy fleeing. What a powerful tool to have in your spiritual warfare arsenal that when you sound the alarm, the Lord Himself will respond and deliver you from trouble.

Numbers 10:9
“If you are fighting an enemy in your own land, blow loudly on the trumpets before you go to fight them. The Lord your God will hear you, and he will save you from your enemies.

Walls of Jericho Fall

Your Jericho Walls Will Fall

In Joshua 6, we read about the walls of Jericho falling. In this story we see that The Lord instructed Joshua and the children of Isreal to conquer their enemies with the help of the shofar. Through their obedience to follow the directions of the Lord and their faith, the conquered their enemies and took the land.

Instructions For The Ministry of the Shofar

Joshua 6:1-5
The gates of Jericho were kept tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelis; no one was allowed to go in or out.

But the Lord said to Joshua, “Jericho and its king and all its mighty warriors are already defeated, for I have given them to you! Your entire army is to walk around the city once a day for six days, followed by seven priests walking ahead of the Ark, each carrying a trumpet made from a ram’s horn.

On the seventh day you are to walk around the city seven times, with the priests blowing their trumpets. Then, when they give one long, loud blast, all the people are to give a mighty shout, and the walls of the city will fall down; then move in upon the city from every direction.”

The Prophetic Act of Faith & Obedience

Joshua 6:15-20
On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched around the city seven times. They marched in the same way they had marched on the days before, but on that day they marched around the city seven times. The seventh time they marched around the city, the priests blew their trumpets.

Then Joshua gave the command: “Now, shout! The Lord is giving you this city! The city and everything is to be destroyed as an offering to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone in her house will be left alive. These people must not be killed because she helped the two spies.

Remember, we must destroy everything else. Don’t take anything. If you take anything and bring it into our camp, you yourselves will be destroyed, and you will cause trouble for the rest of our people.  All the things made from silver, gold, bronze, and iron belong to the Lord. They must be put in the Lord’s treasury.”

So then the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the trumpets, they began shouting. The walls fell down, and the people ran up into the city. So the Israelites defeated that city.

The Ministry Of The Shofar

The blowing of the shofar or rams horn is a calling and ministry that is given to individuals from God.  It is a ministry that involves spiritual warfare and prophecy. When ministering the shofar, It requires complete obedience, faith, trust, alertness and readiness. There are many times when Holy Spirit will speak to you to blow the shofar and you must be obedient in doing so even when you don’t understand why.
You must go where the Lord leads you to sound it. Not your will, but the will of the Lord be done. As you decrease the Lord will increase and arise in the ministry. It’s all about God and what He wants to speak.
In my ministry, there were many times when I wanted to sound it, but the Lord told me NO! There were many times when I didn’t want to sound it and the Lord said YES! Holy Spirit will anoint you on how and when to blow the shofar. He just needs you to be willing and obedient.

God may not have called us all to blow the shofar instrument, BUT He has called us all to be HUMAN shofars Share on X

So None Of Us Are Without Excuse To Sound Our Trumpets… Hallelujah Glory Be To God!!

Isaiah 58:1
The Lord says, “Shout out loud. Don’t hold back. Shout out loud Raise and lift up your voice like a trumpet. Tell my people what they have done against their God, show them their transgression. Tell the family of Jacob about their sins.

The Last Trumpet Sounded

Get ready to go up church and be transformed. Jesus is calling for His bride and only those who have an ear to hear will hear the sound of the trumpet and go up.  We are living in the end times and the Lord is soon to return for the church which is His bride. We must always be in expectancy and watching for His return.

1 Corinthians 15:51-57
But listen, I tell you this secret: We will not all die, but we will all be changed. It will only take the time of a second. We will be changed as quickly as an eye blinks. This will happen when the last trumpet blows. The trumpet will blow and those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we will all be changed.

This body that ruins must clothe itself with something that will never ruin. And this body that dies must clothe itself with something that will never die. So this body that ruins will clothe itself with that which never ruins. And this body that dies will clothe itself with that which never dies. When this happens, the Scriptures will be made true:

“Death is swallowed in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
Where is your power to hurt?”

Death’s power to hurt is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
But we thank God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Get In Tune And On The Frequency of Holy Spirit

Pray that your spiritual senses will be activated that you may have eyes to see in the spirit, ears to hear in the spirit, smell the sweet anointing perfumes of His presence, hands to touch the things by faith in the spirit and the ability to taste and see that the Lord is good. Feed on the Word of God continuouly and abide in His presence. Partake of the word and digest it so your spirit man does not faint and die.

If you believe God has called you to minister the blowing of the shofar, always be led by the Spirit.  Ask God to anoint you for the ministry and wait on Him to lead you and direct you.

Christ is soon to come....will you be ready? Share on X

Joel 2:1
Blow the ram’s horn in Zion. Sound the alarm on my holy mountain. Everyone who lives in the land should tremble, because the day of the Lord is coming. Certainly, it is near.
