What Is Rosh Hashanah And How Is It Celebrated?

Royal Girlz Ministry would like to extend Rosh Hashanah blessings to everyone celebrating this joyous holy day. Rosh Hashanah or “The Feast of Trumpets” means head or beginning of the year. It is the Jewish New Year observed with special worship services and a time of shouting and blowing of the shofar trumpets or rams horn. Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday marking the first and second days of the Jewish year. Rosh Hashanah begins 2021 at sundown on the evening of Monday, September 6 and ends at sundown on the evening of Wednesday September 8, 2021.

Why Does Rosh Hashanah Last 2 Days?

Rosh Hashanah last 2 days because the Jewish calendar goes by the moon. It is the only holiday that begins on the first of the month and because it is unknown what day the new moon will appear, it is celebrated for 2 days to make sure  the holiday was observed on the correct day.

Rosh Hashanah In The Bible

Also called The Feast of Trumpets, you can find Rosh Hashanan in the Bible within the Books of Leviticus and Numbers where God giving Moses the instructions for the Isrealites to observe this time of holy meeting and sounding of the trumpets. The Lord chose these special festivals as holy meetings for the Israelites to meet with him. They are not Jewish holidays created by man, but instead God’s holy days that He chose for His people to observe.

Festival of Trumpets

Again the Lord said to Moses,  “Tell the Israelites: On the first day of the seventh month, you must have a special day of rest. Blow the trumpet to remind the people that this is a holy meeting. You must not do any work. You must bring an offering as a gift to the Lord.”

Numbers 29:1-6

Festival of Trumpets

“There will be a special meeting on the first day of the seventh month. You will not do any work on that day. That is the day for blowing the trumpets. You will offer burnt offerings. Their smell will please the Lord. You will offer 1 bull, 1 ram, and 7 lambs that are one year old. There must be nothing wrong with them.  You will also offer 24 cups of fine flour mixed with oil with the bull, 16 cups with the ram, and 8 cups with each of the 7 lambs.

Also offer a male goat as a sin offering to make you pure. These offerings are in addition to the New Moon sacrifice and its grain offering. And they are in addition to the daily sacrifice and its grain offerings and drink offerings. These must be done according to the rules. They will be sweet-smelling gifts to the Lord.

Psalm 81:2-4

Begin the music.
Play the tambourines.
Play the pleasant harps and lyres.
Blow the ram’s horn at the time of the new moon
and at the time of the full moon, when our festival begins.
This is the law for the people of Israel.
The God of Jacob gave the command.
