~ Love Is The Most Important Commandment ~
In today’s daily word of God we will talk about the most important command we are given. When Jesus was asked which command is the most important, He responded by saying love is the most important command. As many around the world today are celebrating Valentine’s Day, we hear the word “love” thrown around everywhere.
We talk about love for our family, spouses, boyfriends/girlfriends, pets, food and I can go on and on. But as believers, our first love is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind. He is our only Lord, which means we put no one above Him. I know some of the “love” songs we sing to one another say “I will put no one above you”, but as a believer, there is no love above our first love…God.
Part two of this command is to love one another as we love ourselves. When we truly love one another as we love ourselves it is then that we are loving like Christ. Jesus died for us and gave up His life so we could be saved. There is no greater love than for someone to lay down his life for the life of his friend.
Which Command Is the Most Important?
One of the teachers of the law came to Jesus. He heard Jesus arguing with the Sadducees and the Pharisees. He saw that Jesus gave good answers to their questions. So he asked him, “Which of the commands is the most important?”
Jesus answered, “The most important command is this: ‘People of Israel, listen! The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. ’The second most important command is this: ‘Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.’ These two commands are the most important.”
The man answered, “That was a good answer, Teacher. You are right in saying that God is the only Lord and that there is no other God. And you must love God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your strength. And you must love others the same as you love yourself. These commands are more important than all the animals and sacrifices we offer to God.”
Jesus saw that the man answered him wisely. So he said to him, “You are close to God’s kingdom.” And after that time, no one was brave enough to ask Jesus any more questions.
