Jesus And The Fig Tree Warning
This word concerning Jesus and the fig tree has been on my heart since the beginning of 2018. It was originally published on March 25, 2018. The Lord gave me this word to speak to the people and I felt the need to update and repost this because of the urgency of the message for the time we have entered in. The Lord is examining us in this hour just as He did the fig tree.
What are you producing? Do you have the outward appearance of holiness but on the inside you’re only full of dead man’s bones? Are you only pretending to stand for Christ, but your heart is really far from Him? It’s time to ask ourselves these questions and examine ourselves. Please take heed to this warning for the keeper of the vineyard is coming.
The Parable Of The Fig Tree
Luke 13:6-9
Then he used this illustration: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if he could find any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally he told his gardener to cut it down. ‘I’ve waited three years and there hasn’t been a single fig!’ he said. ‘Why bother with it any longer? It’s taking up space we can use for something else.’
“Give it one more chance,’ the gardener answered. ‘Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine; if not, I’ll cut it down.”
This is the year that the Lord will come looking for His investment in you. Will He come and find you taking up space that can be used for something else? When He comes what will He find you doing? We should be a tree of life that produces fruit of righteousness. When the Lord comes, He should find us producing the fruit of His Spirit.
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who wins souls is wise.
A Tree Is Known By Its Fruit
Matthew 7:15-20
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Jesus Curses The Fig Tree
Matthew 21:18-19
In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry, and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up.
Jesus Curses A Fig Tree And Clears The Temple Courts
The Fig Tree Withered
Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”
And His disciples heard it.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching. When evening had come, He went out of the city.
The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree
Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears The Temple Courts
As we read in the Book of Mark, we can see that after Jesus curses the fig tree, He then goes and cleanses the temple. After this happens the story picks back up with the cursed fig tree withered away. The connection between Jesus cursing the fig tree and driving the money changers out of the temple deals with falsehood and hypocrisy.
As we already stated, the cursed fig tree was representing something false. For the tree to show forth leaves would indicate it should also have fruit. There was none. The same is for many of the churches now. The outer appearance of many churches show a beautiful building with all the religious practices that go along with it but it is not producing good fruit.
Matthew 3:7-9
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
When Jesus walked into the Temple they were selling doves and other animals in the house of God. The dove represents the Spirit of God. You will find in many churches where people try to Holy Spirit and the gifts of God. Holy Spirit is never for sell. You don’t have to pay someone for God’s Word… IT’S FREE!!! In the same manner Jesus came in and overturned the table, He is doing in many churches today in this very hour. He is driving out those in His church that are not producing fruit worthy of repentance.
Let Us Examine Ourselves
Let us examine ourselves. Ask yourself what are you producing in the kingdom? Are you simply here taking up space or are producing fruit that can be eaten by others. When people are hungry can they come to you and find good fruit produced from the Holy Spirit or will they find in you nothing that can help nourish their spirit and help them grow? Let us ask ourselves, are we producing the fruit of Holy Spirit or are we just covered in leaves of lies, deception and unfruitfulness.
The Ax Is Laid To The Root
God is calling many of His people home this year; both young and old. For some, God has cursed their tree to wither away because they do not bear fruits worthy of repentance. God has given them time and they did not repent. They did not produce fruit of righteousness in their lives.
The ax is already laid to the root of these trees and they will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
The Lord says “Many of YOUR leaders whom I never chose will wither away this year.” Who will you put your trust in when their lamp stand is removed from it’s place?” Let us ALL examine ourselves.
Amen
