Let Us Run The Race That Is Set Before Us

Every now and then I have to go back to one of my favorites for encouragement. This old gospel song 99 and a half won’t do encourages me to run on! Be encouraged today to press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

99 And a Half Lyrics

Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half won’t do
[x4]
Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half won’t do
[x2]
On my knees everyday
Lord please hear me when I pray
Please forgive me when I stumble
Lord, I wanna be in that number

Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half won’t do
[x2]

On my knees everyday
Lord please hear me when I pray
Please forgive me when I stumble
Lord, I wanna be in that number

Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half won’t do
[x2]
Satan tries to turn me around
Tries to make me lose my ground
But I don’t worry, and I don’t fret
I’ve come to far and I’m not tired yet
[x2]

Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half won’t do
[x2]
Lord, I’m running
Lord I’m running, trying to make one hundred because
Ninety-nine and a half, ninety nine and a half, ninety nine and a half won’t do

99 And A Half Won’t Do Scripture

There is not an actual scripture stating that 99 and a half won’t do in the Bible. However, the 99 and a half won’t do meaning represents the race that we run in our Christian walk. In the Book of 1 Corinthians, it talks about how runners run a race to win! We all know that in a race there is only one 1st place winner. The Apostle Paul was likening our lives to a race that runners run. In our Christian walk we should be striving for the prize. Not just to be good and acceptable but striving for perfection in Christ.  Let us continue to run for the prize in Christ Jesus. Here are a few scriptures that we can reference and study as it pertains to running the race set before us.

Scripture References:

1 Corinthians 9:24-25
You know that in a race all the runners run, but only one runner gets the prize. So run like that. Run to win! All who compete in the games use strict training. They do this so that they can win a prize—one that doesn’t last. But our prize is one that will last forever.

Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

Hebrews 12:1
We have all these great people around us as examples. Their lives tell us what faith means. So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit. We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall.
